Designed for long-range, low-power operation, ALTA sensors can communicate across extended distances and through multiple walls, depending on the gateway and installation environment. This allows larger facilities or dispersed equipment populations to be covered with fewer network access points. Monnit currently states that selected ALTA XL gateway configurations can support communication at distances exceeding 2,000 feet through more than 18 walls in commercial building environments.

Sensor gateways then connect the wireless network with the wider information environment. Monnit offers Ethernet and cellular gateway options for fixed facilities, remote sites and applications where local network infrastructure may be limited or unavailable. Readings can be transferred into iMonnit software for device management, visualization, reporting and alert configuration.

iMonnit serves as the central software environment for managing Monnit sensors, gateways and accessories. Users can view current and historical readings, organize devices by network or location, configure operating thresholds and establish rules that trigger notifications when a monitored condition moves outside defined limits. Depending on the software and service configuration, alerts can be delivered through email, text message, push notification or voice call.  Monnit also supports both cloud-hosted and locally deployed software. iMonnit Cloud provides online and mobile access to distributed sensor networks. For organizations that require local data control, iMonnit Enterprise allows larger sensor environments to be hosted and maintained on the company’s own infrastructure, while iMonnit Express provides a standalone option for smaller local networks.

The value of the platform lies in the way these layers operate together. Measurements collected across individual assets, rooms or remote facilities can be consolidated into a common monitoring environment, allowing organizations to identify changing conditions without rebuilding the underlying automation or building-control architecture.
