Melexis has announced the global market launch of its MLX90424 integrated automotive brake pedal sensing module.

The MLX90424’s design directly supports 12V power, eliminating the need for a separate regulator and enhancing system flexibility. By combining position sensing and switching elements within a single module, the MLX90424 significantly reduces brake system design complexity, assembly, and bill of material (BOM) component requirements. This integration simplifies the seamless implementation of the MLX90424 within safety-critical braking systems, particularly in space-constrained environments. Moreover, its built-in magnetic switch facilitates a power-saving mode, ensuring efficient operation.

Incorporating Melexis’ Hall Triaxis® technology, the MLX90424 provides reliable and accurate linear displacement measurements of up to 30 mm, boasting a resolution of up to 18 bits for fine-grained position sensing. The sensor also offers a flexible magnet configuration, supporting pitch-independent operation, which enables the use of various magnets and enhances design versatility. Designed for robust performance, it exhibits strong resistance to stray magnetic fields, maintaining stability during safety-critical braking actions, with a tolerance of stray fields up to 5 mT (4 kA/m), aligning with ISO 11452-8 standards.

The MLX90424 is AEC-Q100 qualified, with the position sensing function certified for integration to ASIL D and the switching function to ASIL B, meeting ISO 26262 standards for functional safety. Its fast SPI interface ensures high-speed communication with vehicle control systems, while the sensor supports multiple output formats, including PWM and the Secure Sensor SENT protocol, facilitating compatibility with diverse systems. Additionally, the MLX92292 Switch enables low-power operation, allowing the system to transition to active mode upon magnetic field detection, and the sensor includes programmable calibration capabilities for multi-point linearization, enhancing accuracy post-assembly.

“With the MLX90424, we deliver a highly integrated, application-specific solution that reaffirms Melexis’ leadership in brake pedal sensor technology,” says Klaus Wilczek, Global Marketing Director for Position Sensors at Melexis. “Our team has developed a product that allows engineers to create simplified, space-efficient designs without compromising performance.”

Typical applications include brake pedal stroke sensors, pedal position sensors, throttle position sensors, ride height position sensors, absolute linear position sensors, float-level sensors, non-contacting potentiometers, and wake-up switches.
