Mouser Electronics was founded in 1964 by a high school physics teacher who sought to address his students’ needs for more accessible electronic components. The company’s humble roots began with just a few employees working out of a garage in El Cajon, California. In 1986, the company moved its headquarters from California to Texas, placing Mouser near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to expand its distribution capabilities further. In 2000, the company was acquired by the Fort Worth-based TTI, Inc. In 2007, Mouser and TTI were acquired by the Warren Buffett-owned Berkshire Hathaway, Inc.

Glenn Smith, the president and CEO of Mouser Electronics since 2004, began his career at the company in 1973. Since then, and over the last five decades, Smith has played a vital role in helping to rapidly grow Mouser into one of the world’s top-10 electronic components distributors.
Over the decades, Mouser has been recognized with various awards for its innovation, leadership, and industry, community, and marketing efforts. In 2012, Mouser received an Employer of Excellence Award from Tarrant County, Texas, recognizing the significant positive economic and community impact that Mouser has had in North Texas. In 2014, the company won a 2014 Large Business of the Year Award. In 2019, the Fort Worth Business Press named Glenn Smith as a Top Public Company CEO. In 2021, the company was again recognized with a Best Places to Work Award. In 2022 alone, Mouser received more than 30 individual awards for distribution excellence from its valued manufacturer partners.
According to Smith, much of Mouser’s continued growth and prosperity has been due to the hard work of Mouser employees and their unwavering dedication to providing best-in-class service.
