Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE), a U.S.-based manufacturer of advanced testing equipment, has completed a multi-system e-mobility testing installation for Rivian Automotive at the company’s facilities in Irvine, California. The project, developed over two years, included a series of customized chassis dynamometers designed to support the validation and performance testing of Rivian’s electric trucks, SUVs, and delivery vans.

The installation includes three MAE-AWD-500-AC/EC chassis dynamometers for Rivian’s truck and SUV platforms, two systems for its Electric Delivery Vans (EDVs), and a sixth unit integrated into an environmental chamber for cold-temperature testing. Each system delivers 7,000 lbs. of simulated inertia and was tailored to Rivian’s specific dimensional and performance specifications.
“MAE’s history of providing sophisticated test stands specifically designed for electric vehicle drivetrains, which provide big torque at low RPM creating a need for more steady state loading capability, MAE was able to meet Rivian’s requirements and provide the necessary hardware and software for the system,” said Michael Caldwell, Senior Account Manager at MAE.
MAE has extensive experience in designing electric vehicle testing systems that accommodate the unique torque characteristics and steady-state requirements of modern EV platforms. The systems provided to Rivian support precise simulation of real-world driving conditions and contribute to more accurate drivetrain validation.
