Rohde & Schwarz, global industry experts in test and measurement solutions, has introduced new three-phase power analysis software for its MXO series oscilloscopes, bringing power analyzer-style measurements and full waveform visibility together in a single instrument. The new R&S MXO-K333 software option provides measurement and analysis functions for testing and debugging three-phase AC power systems, motor drives and inverters. Available for all four-channel and eight-channel models of the R&S MXO 3, MXO 4, MXO 5 and MXO 5C oscilloscope families, the software allows engineers to analyze voltage and current signals while keeping the captured waveforms visible throughout the measurement process.
This combination gives engineers access to calculated power values and the underlying time-domain signals on the same instrument. Power behavior can be directly correlated with switching events, transients, control signals and communication activity, making it easier to move from measurement results to root-cause analysis during research, development and debugging.

The R&S MXO-K333 software option combines three-phase power measurements with time-correlated waveform analysis on Rohde & Schwarz MXO series oscilloscopes.
A guided setup wizard assigns oscilloscope channels to the voltage and current probes used for three-phase analysis, verifies the wiring and configures the instrument. The software accommodates common two-wire, three-wire and four-wire measurement configurations, including 2V2A, 3V3A and 3VN3A, reducing the time and complexity involved in preparing the oscilloscope for different system topologies. Once configured, the software performs cycle-by-cycle calculations of RMS voltage and current, power factor, active power, reactive power and total power. Engineers can also define the input and output configurations needed to calculate total three-phase system efficiency, supporting performance evaluation of power conversion systems, drives and inverters.
Additional analysis capabilities include phasor displays, harmonic analysis and total harmonic distortion measurements in line with IEC 61000-3-2 and MIL-STD-1399. These views help engineers evaluate phase relationships, harmonic content and power quality while retaining access to the original voltage and current waveforms.
Other MXO oscilloscope capabilities remain available during three-phase power analysis, including advanced triggering, FFT and spectrum analysis, automated measurements, measurement tracking, mathematical functions, zone triggering and protocol decoding. Engineers can therefore examine electrical power performance alongside control and communication behavior without moving between separate test instruments. By combining power calculations with time-correlated waveform analysis, the software supports both steady-state performance evaluation and investigation of dynamic events. This is especially useful when troubleshooting converters, motor drives and industrial power systems where an isolated power measurement may not reveal the switching, timing or control condition responsible for unexpected behavior.
