SBG Systems, experts in MEMS-based motion sensing solutions, has announced a major firmware upgrade for its Ellipse series of miniature MEMS-based inertial systems. These systems offer AHRS, INS with external GNSS support, and INS with embedded dual-antenna GNSS.
The free upgrade aims to transform existing AHRS and INS hardware into higher-precision, more versatile inertial systems. It introduces significant advancements in real-time and post-processed vehicle analysis, positioning, and performance in challenging environments. All models are designed to deliver accurate motion tracking, orientation, and positioning in a compact and cost-effective format.
Advancing Accuracy, Reliability, and Integration

The New Ellipse firmware update incorporates a next-generation sensor fusion algorithm, which significantly improves navigation, attitude, and heave performance, especially in high-dynamic conditions. It also improves stability in orientation, position, and velocity calculations and enhances heading resolution in single-antenna configurations.
System upgrades also include better immunity to transient magnetic disturbances and automatic fallback modes for magnetometers when GNSS signals are unavailable.
Enhanced GNSS-Denied Navigation Capabilities
Addressing the challenges of GNSS-denied environments, the firmware also introduces newly integrated flags for GNSS jamming and spoofing detection. It allows operators to reject or re-enable external sensors, such as GNSS, without needing to reset the system’s internal filter, streamlining workflows and improving situational awareness in mission-critical applications.
User-Friendly System Integration
The upgrade simplifies system configuration and interfacing through a newly introduced RESTful API, providing developers and integrators with flexible control via straightforward command lines. This enhancement shortens development timelines while allowing tailored setups for specific use cases across automotive, robotics, defense, and survey sectors.
Support for Advanced GNSS Correction Services
The New Ellipse is now compatible with the PointPerfect™ GNSS correction service, offering centimeter-level accuracy and fast convergence for large-area operations. This feature is ideal for agriculture, autonomous systems, and precision robotics applications where absolute positioning performance is essential.
Free Upgrade for Ellipse v3.x Hardware
The firmware update is free to all customers using compatible Ellipse v3 x hardware. Existing users can download and install the upgrade via SBG Systems’ website using the provided installation instructions. The upgrade adds advanced capabilities to trusted hardware, removing the need for new physical components.
