Yokogawa Launches New Optical Power Meter Modules for AQ2300 Series

Photonics Semiconductor Test and Measurement

Yokogawa Test & Measurement Corporation has announced the release of two new optical power meter modules as part of its AQ2300 Series test platform. The AQ23211A (1-channel) and AQ23212A (2-channel) modules are designed to meet a growing industry demand for faster, more precise optical power measurements in semiconductor and optical component manufacturing environments.

These new modules inherit the trusted performance of the AQ2200 Series while introducing several enhancements to sampling speed, data handling, and integration capabilities. Operating within the AQ2300 Series’ modular chassis, they allow users to configure a versatile, photonics-electronics convergence measurement system tailored to their application requirements.

The AQ23211A and AQ23212A modules achieve a minimum averaging time of 20 microseconds, significantly improving measurement responsiveness compared to prior models. Data transfer performance has also been enhanced, allowing files containing up to 100,001 data points to be exported in under one second. The measurement data capacity in logging mode has increased fifty-fold, from 20,001 to 1,000,001 data points. These improvements are intended to support long-duration testing and high-speed acquisition with minimal system latency.

A key advancement of the new modules is their seamless synchronization with the AQ23811A source measure unit (SMU). Both OPMs and the SMU can operate together within the same AQ2300 chassis without external wiring. This integration enables high-quality pulse waveform generation, real-time voltage and current measurements, and streamlined setup for hybrid photonics-electronics evaluations. According to Yokogawa, this is the first modular platform to integrate both optical power meters and a source measure unit in a single frame. The AQ2300 Series also includes a digital I/O interface for connectivity with external devices, supporting automated test control and signaling.

Applications and Target Markets
The AQ23211A and AQ23212A modules serve diverse test needs across optical and electronic domains. Key application areas include the characterization of optical semiconductors (LEDs, laser diodes, photodiodes), evaluation of passive optical components (such as fibers and waveguides), and testing of electrical semiconductor devices (including FETs and transistors). These modules are ideally suited for use by optical component manufacturers, optical test system integrators, semiconductor device suppliers, and university laboratories focused on photonics R&D.
